What are the ambient port, soft tips options, and recessed sockets?
The ambient port allows you to hear ambient sounds using 5 interchangeable filters ranging from fully open to solid. Useful if you feel too isolated onstage while using earphones. Note: if using any filter except for solid, low end will decrease considerably. Crowd mikes are recommend instead of ambient ports.
For the soft tips option we make the main shell out of acrylic but for the tips we use a hybrid material that softens when warmed up in ear. Recommend for singers to prevent loss of seal while moving mouth. Less durable then acrylic and come only in clear.
Recessed sockets are primarily an aesthetic choice. We place the connector deeper into the shell. If the cord gets tugged, they will help prevent the pins from being bent. If moisture or dirt get into the recessed socket, it's difficult to clean and can cause corrosion.
How long is the build time?
Production time increases with order size and the current build time is 2-3 weeks. Please note, this is after your order form, impressions AND payment have all been received. The build time is a rough estimate and your order may be delayed by rush orders or refits entering the queue. If you have a deadline for your order we recommend you use the rush build option.
How do I pay with a credit card or Paypal?
Once we receive the order form, we will email you a PayPal invoice. After you click pay now you can either log in to pay with a PayPal account or enter your credit card information to pay without a PayPal account. Note: for credit card payments don't change the shipping address from the billing address, PayPal will block the card. We will ship to the shipping address indicated on the order form.
How can I speed up the process?
We can do a rush build for $75 extra. The in-ear monitors would then take 4-5 business days to build. Overnight shipping is included in the fee. For international rush builds the cost is $95 Due to the large amount of rush builds being requested we will be limiting future requests. Please check with us before planning for a rush build.

USA Orders: USPS Priority $15; USPS Express (usually overnight) $25; Fed-EX 2-day Based on area $25-$40;
International Orders: EMS $40; DHL Based on area $70 to $100.
What service do you use for international orders?
We ship USPS-EMS overseas and it usually takes 5-7 business days to arrive. DHL is available and it usually takes 3 days to arrive.
What material are your custom in-ears made of?
The shells are made of hard acrylic plastic. It happens to be the most durable AND the most hypoallergenic.
How long do you make your canal?
The length of our canals goes past the 2nd bend in the ear. We work to make them as long as possible without causing discomfort to your inner ear.
What is the fit/product guarantee?
30 days from the time of delivery. If during this time you experience discomfort, we'll adjust or remake them at no extra cost. Furthermore, there is a 1-year craftsmanship warranty with all custom in-ear monitor orders (on the internal components and the shell- excludes detachable cord) See "Limited Craftsmanship Warranty Terms and Conditions"
I have a small fit issue but I'm a international customer; any advice?
You can save on shipping time and costs if the issue just involves trimming down a section that is causing discomfort, we'd recommend you take it to an local audiologist. They have basic tools on hand for trimming hearing aids and can make small adjustments to the IEM. Please send us an email notifying us before you take it for a refit. Please see the answer below.
I need a refit, can a local audiologist make the adjustments? How would that affect my warranty?
1964 EARS cannot warranty the fit after the audiologist has altered it. In regards to the internal components, your warranty will still be in effect, EXCEPT for any damage the audiologist may do. We cannot warranty any damage done by the audiologist, including the external shell and the internal components.
What is the process to get the impressions/molds?
Please take our “Impression Instruction” document with you to an audiologist. NOTE: must be an “open mouth” impression.
Do you offer custom artwork? Which format do you require?
If you would like artwork printed on your IEM faceplate, we accept high quality JPG, PNG or PSD files. This option is $50 extra.
Do you have demos available?
We do have a few demo units with various contacts around the globe. Email us and we’ll see what we can do in your area.
Do you provide the option of recessed sockets vs. non-recessed?
We default to a non-recessed socket design, but can do recessed sockets for $25 extra.
How do custom in-ears feel to people who have never used them before?
If you've never had customs before it will take a little for your ear to get used to something being in it. What I typically look for is discomfort or pain from wearing them, but if you don't feel any of that, just give your ears a little time and you'll forget that you have them in. If however, the pain/discomfort does continue, be sure to contact us and we can work with you to adjust your in-ears accordingly.
